Prenatal Massage

Massage during pregnancy is a wonderful complement to prenatal care. Prenatal massage is encouraged during any stage of your pregnancy, and features special accomadations to ensure your safety, comfort, and relaxation.

Our Certified Therapists:
We have two massage therapists certified in prenatal care: Megan and Bethany, who both
completed a prenatal massage certification program in 2014. Each have years of experience performing prenatal massage; their expertise ensures your prenatal massage will be secure and effective. As a mother of three, Bethany also brings first hand experience to her work.
Prenatal massage has been shown to:
  • Ease Labor:   Women who received prenatal massage throughout pregnancy have been shown to have fewer delivery complications and shorter delivery times.
  • Relieves Aches and Pains of Pregnancy: Pregnancy causes significant stress on your body; massage can help relieve your muscular discomforts, back pain, headaches, leg cramps, sciatica, stiffness, tension, fatigue, and emotional exhaustion.
  • Improves Sleep Quality:  By releasing endorphins and soothing the nervous system, massage decreases chances of insomnia.

What does Prenatal Massage look like?

You will be positioned on your side on the massage table, with pillows to keep you supported in a cozy, comfortable position. This position is safest for you and baby to avoid compression of the vena cava that could lower the mother's blood pressure or reduce circulation to mother and baby.

Cautions involving Prenatal Massage:
  • Prenatal Massage is generally not advised for high risk pregnancy. Discuss prenatal massage with your doctor or midwife.
  • During pregnancy certain areas of the body require less pressure and limited techniques. Please stay in communication with us during your session if any discomfort arises.
  • An increase in core body temperature can potentially increase the risks of certain birth defects and miscarriage. Thus we do not include hot stones, table warmers, or hot towels in our prenatal massage.
  • Aromatherapy choices may be limited during pregnancy for safety.
